Addiction Policy Forum is excited to announce that Protect Your Brain—our free, self-paced online prevention course–is now available in both English and Spanish. Developed to help youth, families, educators, and communities better understand brain health and substance use prevention, the course provides engaging, evidence-informed education that empowers young people to make healthy decisions and build lifelong protective skills.
Every young person, family, and community deserves access to accurate, engaging, and evidence-based information that helps them make informed decisions—regardless of the language they speak. The release of Protege tu Cerebro (Protect Your Brain) represents an important step toward expanding access to prevention education for Spanish-speaking youth, families, and communities worldwide. By making these resources available in two languages, we hope to reach more communities with free, evidence-based prevention tools.
Why Language Matters in Prevention
More than 42 million people in the United States speak Spanish at home, yet many families continue to face barriers to accessing health information in their preferred language. By translating evidence-based prevention resources into Spanish, Addiction Policy Forum is working to ensure more youth, parents, caregivers, educators, and communities have access to trusted prevention education that is culturally and linguistically accessible.
What You'll Learn
Unlike many traditional prevention programs, Protect Your Brain /Protege tu Cerebro introduces students to the science of brain development and health literacy while helping them build practical skills for everyday life. Through interactive lessons, learners explore:
How the adolescent brain develops
Risk and protective factors that influence the development of a substance use disorder
Understanding substance use disorders as a medical condition
Healthy coping strategies
Building resilience and decision-making skills
Prevention Is Stronger Together
To celebrate the release of Protect Your Brain / Protege tu Cerebro, more than 30 national organizations across prevention, public health, education, healthcare, family support, and recovery are joining Addiction Policy Forum in sharing these free resources with communities worldwide. Their partnership will help ensure more youth, families, and communities can access prevention education at no cost.
