[Webinar] Alcohol Use Disorder Part 1: Epidemiology, Evidence-Based Treatments, and Emerging Therapeutics
Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is among the most prevalent substance use disorders in the United States, affecting millions of people each year and contributing to significant health, social, and economic harms. Yet, despite the availability of effective behavioral interventions and medications, many individuals with AUD do not receive treatment.
This webinar will provide an introduction to alcohol use and AUD in the United States, including epidemiologic trends, diagnostic criteria, and current treatment approaches. Participants will learn about behavioral interventions and FDA-approved medications used to treat AUD, as well as the differing roles of abstinence-oriented and harm-reduction approaches. The session will also examine promising areas of emerging research, including novel medications, device-based interventions, and the potential role of GLP-1 receptor agonists in AUD treatment.
