Ohio Faith Leaders Responding to Addiction: Strengthening Knowledge and Skills in Substance Use Disorder Awareness and Support

On March 8, 2023, RecoveryOhio, the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, and Addiction Policy Forum hosted Ohio Faith Leaders Responding to Addiction, a comprehensive training designed to increase knowledge about addiction and develop skills and strategies to help faith leaders and organizations. The virtual, statewide event brought together over 100 leaders from the faith community to advance Ohio’s response to substance use disorders.

“The success of the event was evident in the engagement and enthusiasm of the participants, who came together virtually to delve into critical topics and explore evidence-based approaches to addiction treatment and recovery support,” shared Jessica Hulsey, Executive Director of the Addiction Policy Forum. “The training is designed to equip faith leaders with the tools they need to improve prevention, treatment, and recovery for communities.”

One participant shared, “The training was very informative. I really learned something.”

Aimee Shadwick, Director of RecoveryOhio shared: “We are grateful for the commitment and dedication of the over 100 Ohioan Faith Leaders who attended and continue to serve as pillars of strength and sources of support within their communities. By coming together to tackle the complex issue of addiction, we are reminded of the power of collective action and the transformative impact that education and compassion can have on the lives of those affected by addiction.”

The event was part of a series of anti-stigma training events sponsored by RecoveryOhio and the Addiction Policy Forum.
