Addiction Policy Forum Welcomes Deputy District Attorney Mary Ashley to Board of Directors

November 17, 2021 -- San Bernardino County (CA) Deputy District Attorney (DDA) Mary Ashley was recently appointed to the Addiction Policy Forum Board of Directors. As a member of the board, DDA Ashley joins prestigious leaders across the fields of prevention, treatment, recovery, criminal justice, and advocacy who work to support patients, families, and communities impacted by addiction.

DDA Ashley joined the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office in 1998. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from University of Southern California, and a J.D. from Western State College of Law.

“I am honored to join such an esteemed group of national leaders and I look forward to working with the Addiction Policy Forum on ending addiction as a major health crisis in the United States” said Deputy District Attorney Ashley.

At the San Bernardino District Attorney’s Office Ashley has established a reputation as a fierce advocate for victims, including children and families. She has prosecuted child abuse cases, launched a Family Violence Unit, and oversaw the office's juvenile division and the handling of minors involved in the criminal justice system.

The Addiction Policy Forum is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating addiction as a major health problem. Founded in 2015, the Addiction Policy Forum is working in states and communities across the country to end stigma, help patients and families in crisis and translate the science around addiction.

“We are honored to have Mary join our board at Addiction Policy Forum,” said Jessica Hulsey, Founder & Executive Director of Addiction Policy Forum. “Through her work in the criminal justice system Mary has had a front row seat to the devastation that substance use disorders have on impacted individuals and their families. The wealth of knowledge that Mary brings to table will help the Addiction Policy Forum to better serve and respond to this vulnerable population. “

The Addiction Policy Forum’s Advisory Council is chaired by District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett of Essex County, Massachusetts, and led by Judge Robert Rancourt, Senior Judge for Minnesota District Court, and Blake Norton, Chief Strategy Officer at the Philadelphia Police Department. In addition to DDA Ashley, Addiction Policy Forum is welcoming Ron LeGrand, consultant and attorney, to the Board of Directors.

“The Addiction Policy Forum Board of Directors has gained two invaluable members,” said District Attorney Blodgett. “Both LeGrand and Deputy District Attorney Ashley are highly respected leaders in this field and I look forward to working with them on improving services and resources to treat and prevent substance use disorders."
