Matthew has 25 years of experience in both personal addiction recovery and family support recovery. His wife of 15 years struggled with addiction after getting addicted to pain medicine after a stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis while she was pregnant with their first child.

After 10 years of battling addiction, her condition morphed into a severe psychosis. After multiple inpatient treatments, suicide attempts, arrests and inpatient psychiatric hospitalizations, she took her own life, leaving Matthew and his two daughters to pick up the pieces of their broken family.

His wife’s death has fueled his efforts to battle the current drug-related overdose death crisis in his own county, which is #5 in the country per capita and #1 in the country per capita in opioid prescriptions per patient.  Through collaborative efforts as the Patient Health Educator with Capstone Rural Health clinics, Dr. Tucker works with local law enforcement, judges, prisons, treatment facilities, churches and the local recovering community to battle addiction in the epicenter of Alabama’s  current crisis.
