Kelly has five kids and three grandkids; family is of utmost importance to her. Her mother struggled with alcohol use disorder most of her adult life, so Kelly and her siblings as children witnessed her hit rock bottom numerous times growing up. She was for the most part was successful in her recovery; Kelly's sister however was not. Kelly's sister passed from an overdose in 2016, and her mom passed 5 weeks later.
Since then, Kelly's goal in life and in her nursing career has been to help anyone who struggles with substance use disorder and families who have a loved one with the disease. Kelly works in a department of corrections treatment center and plans on furthering her career path by getting her BSN. in nursing along with her LAC.
Kelly says, "There need to be more education, resources and help for all involved and who have been affected, and there is a need to reduce the stigma associated with substance use disorders."
