Jim Surprenant has experienced firsthand addiction from family members having alcohol use disorder to a nephew overdosing on heroin, taking his life.

Jim believes that the Michigan State Chapter of the Addiction Policy Forum will provide the necessary tools needed for raising community awareness, end the stigma and promote the changes needed.

Jim traveled to Washington DC in 2017 to be at hearings on Capitol Hill, attended CARA Family Day 2017 and CARA Family Day 2018, and has met with state representatives regarding funding for awareness in communities. 

He is the co-founder of FTS Health and Wellness LLC and the Save a Life Project Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization that travels to schools across the United States providing speakers to educate students, faculty, and communities on bullying and drug abuse.

He is the Drug Awareness Director for Elks Lodge #323 and received the Elks Distinguished Citizenship Award in 2017.
