APF Statement on Senate FY 17 Continuing Resolution

September 22, 2016 | Addiction Policy Forum

Following is a statement by Jessica Nickel, Executive Director of Addiction Policy Forum, on the  inclusion of funding to address the opioid addiction epidemic in the FY17 Continuing Resolution.

“We would like to thank the Senate for providing $37 million in the  FY17 Continuing Resolution to support the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA). This  funding is a critical "down payment" on CARA and will help bring critical resources to our communities.

Each day we lose 129 people to drug overdoses. We support this critical bridge funding today to address this national crisis. We commend the Senate for taking the first step in assuring we fully fund life-saving programs, and we look forward to the continued commitment by both chambers of Congress to appropriate full funding in the Omnibus later this year.”

The Senate adopted by voice vote today the motion to proceed to H.R. 5325, the vehicle for the FY17 Continuing Resolution.
